Type of procedure

Application for issuance of a Certificate of Eligibility

Foreign nationals who wish to enter Japan (excluding those who intend to stay for a short period of time).

Application for permission to acquire status of residence

Foreign nationals who have entered Japan without going through the landing procedures (due to having lost their Japanese citizenship, being born within the country, etc.) who plan on spending more than 60 days in Japan after the event.

Application for issuance of a Certificate of Authorized Employment

Foreign nationals who are permitted to work.

Application for change of status of residence

Foreign nationals seeking to change their current status of residence (except for those looking to have their status of residence changed to "Permanent Resident").

Application for permission for permanent residence

Foreign nationals who want to change their status of residence to "Permanent Resident," as well as those who are eligible by birth.

Application for extension of period of stay

work visa

Application for work visa

It is a status of residence for the purpose of working. There are technical/humanities/international services, intra-company transferees, skilled workers, nursing care, management/administration, etc.

Specific activity visa

Application for designated activities visa

A status of residence that allows entry and residence for foreigners who do not fall under any of the activities of any status of residence stipulated by law.
Working holiday, foreign nurse/care worker candidate based on economic partnership agreement, etc.

Permanent Resident Visa

Application for permanent resident

A status of residence that allows you to stay in Japan without changing your nationality. There are no restrictions on residence activities or period of stay, so you can do activities with a greater degree of freedom.

student visa

Application for student visa

A status of residence for receiving education at a Japanese university, technical college, high school, junior high school, elementary school, etc.

spouse visa

Application for spouse visa

Status of residence for spouses married to Japanese nationals. There are no restrictions on residence activities and no work restrictions, so you can work freely.

short stay visa

Application for short term stay visa

Status of residence granted for short-term stays such as business, tourism, and visiting relatives. Also called a tourist visa. You can stay in Japan for periods of 90 days, 30 days, and 15 days.
